Spring 2015 update
What an inspiration to us all our teams have been this year. The Winter Dressage Championships have just resulted in an amazing 3rd place. Our team of Carolyn Price, Abbie golden, Becky Smith and Poppy Douglas Johnson did us proud, all producing lovely tests of 69%, 66%, 69% and 74.6% respectively. The day was not without its ups and downs, from a horse needing a re-plaiting job to the wrong breeches having been packed, to say nothing of the mayhem in the next door arena when a competitor was having the unfortunate task of persuading her horse that the flags were not portraying the skull and bones of impending doom. Unfortunately her persuasive powers were not enough and the horse galloped precariously around the arena, at one point almost joining Abbie and Zeus in their arena! To score an amazing 66% despite the distractions was an achievement in itself let alone inspire Poppy (once her lent breeches were peeled off Abbie!) into producing a stunning Novice test which, with Carolyn and Becky having both achieved 6th placings in their respective arenas, secured the final overall 3rd placing. Well done to everyone and an example to us all of brilliant team work. As ambassadors of the SWDG they have done us proud!
With hardly a moment for anyone to catch their breath the Dressage on Grass at Aldon was underway, brilliantly run by all the Greenwood Family along with a great team of helpers. Assisted by the most perfect weather, the day really could not have been more enjoyable and a wonderful way to get everyone out and competing on grass again. An enormous thank you to Sara for making the day such a success. It is competitions like this that give those that have never competed before the chance to do so without any pressure and for those already competing whether BD or BE, it is the perfect opportunity to get their horses out in preparation for the forthcoming season.
The SWDG have plenty more clinics and competitions for all levels coming up so keep your eye on the calendar and get on out there and have a go. There is no better starting point whether for jockey or horse. Even your ancient Chairman is feeling inspired to dig out the old dressage saddle!
